Sometimes, a little bit of muscle is all you need. If that’s the case, then perhaps a small bulldozer is all you really need. Now, when you say small bulldozer, I’m assuming your not actually looking for a skid steer or a bobcat. Since those are really different machines.

Even the smaller dozers are more than capable working around the construction site, big home project, small landscaping job, or just around the farm. If your building a swimming pool, clearing a small woodlot, or demoing an old barn, the job will go much faster, and effectively if you have the right tools for the job.

While money may be tight these days, for those with spending money this is a major bonus. We’re in a buyers market for everything from gift baskets to luxury homes, and everything in between (which includes bulldozers). Snapping up a new or used machine now that still has a lot of years left in it, may be the best bargain you’ll get.

The great thing about buying a dozer manufactured by a company like Caterpillar, is that you don’t have to buy the top of the line model, to benefit from their top of the line technology. All the models in their lineup will benefit from the research and development they’ve poured into their high end machines.

You may want to check out Liebherr, Deer, or New Holland machines, as these are a few other manufacturers that have been around for a few years. In addition to picking a good brand name, it’s important to consider the machine as well. Has it been maintained thoroughly? Does it appear to be in good working condition? What repairs will be required in the short term to keep it going?

It suggests that they were doing at least minimum upkeep on their dozer. Secondly, it should give you a pretty good idea of what you’ll need to do to keep your little dozer running.

Don’t dismiss the idea of buying a bulldozer over the internet, just because it seems a little unorthodox. There are plenty more bulldozers for sale online, then you’ll find within your home town, or circle of friends and business contacts. Online, your more likely to find better prices, and a larger selection of dozers to choose from.

Secondly, you’ll find more selection online, especially for hard to find items, like caterpillar bulldozers.

Whether you’ve got a big job, or a little job, there’s a caterpillar dozer built for the occasion. They come in all kinds of sizes, and all kinds of price ranges. As a rule, when it comes to bulldozers, it’s almost always better to go too big instead of too small. Basically get the best machine your budget and work space allow for.

While it’s true, that the big bulldozers are capable of some pretty heavy lifting, don’t dismiss the smaller siblings in the family. A d3 or d4 Caterpillar is more than adequate, whtn it comes to doing work around the construction site, landscaping site, or some old farm land.

You’d be surprised at some of the great prices you can get these for during the tough economic times, if you look around a bit. As long as the dozer has been maintained well, you should get quite a few good years out of even a used machine.

Unless you really know the ins and outs of bulldozer design, engineering and technology, one of the easiest ways to make sure you buy a reliable machines, is to stick with a brand name. Caterpillar is one of the best, and they are so, because they built so many machines over so many years.

That’s not to say, that John Deere, Komatsu, or Case don’t build good machines, because they do. Another thing to check on his how well a used dozer has been maintained. Studying the machine itself with a good diesel mechanic is a good step. Photos or videos of the machine are also helpful, if you can’t get to the dozer in person.

Getting your hands on the previous owners maintenance log, or at the very least, receipts from of when previous work was done, is a prudent step. It may teach you a thing or two, about bulldozer maintenance, and reveal something about the previous owner.

When shopping for bulldozers, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. Number one, it doesn’t really matter your buying, if you look hard enough, your going to find the best prices online. It’s always been less expensive, for a vendor to sell something through a website that has low overhead.

Caterpillar dozers, are not just something you can zip over to WalMart and pick up. You need to use the internet for this kind of machine.
