Firefighting runs in my genes. At least five generations of my family has taken pride in protecting their neighbors against fires. After 22 years as a firefighter, my pulse quickens each time I hear a siren. I can tell by watching my father that he also feels the urge to get to work protecting America’s families each time a siren calls. For that reason, when he retired I knew I wanted to get him something he would have the rest of his life.

I started my search on the Internet, looking for anything related to firefighting. Although it was easy to find stuffed Dalmatians and model trucks, I knew those wouldn’t be right for my dad. None of these grabbed me; too cliche. I really considered getting him a pole from a demolished fire station I found online. I was struggling with the idea of whether he would actually want something like that in the house, and where it would go. Would my mom like it? They don’t have a big house. Firefighting isn’t the most lucrative career choice. But he has a lot of land, so I thought I should find something that could go outside.

I searched the internet again when suddenly I saw the advertisement that grabbed me: Antique Fire Trucks for sale. Although I initially thought that something like this would be completely out of my range, I was amazed to find that antique fire trucks for sale were surprisingly affordable, and there was an amazing selection of antique fire trucks for sale. All of these incredible old fashioned antique fire trucks for sale were listed neatly one on top of the other. I knew almost immediately that this was the gift I was looking for.

After looking at each of the antique fire trucks for sale probably 20 times, I narrowed my choice down to two trucks. One truck was very old, with wooden spoked wheels, and the second was a 1965 Howe. Although the wooden wheels and nostalgia of my first selection was quite a draw, I knew the Howe would have significance for my dad, as he’d driven one of these himself on calls when he was younger. With all of the antique fire trucks for sale, it wasn’t an easy decision, but I finally settled on the Howe.

The day the truck was scheduled to be delivered, I was at my parents’ house. When my dad opened the door and saw it, he was completely overwhelmed. His eyes lit up as he examined the truck. These days, I can always count on finding him polishing his truck when I stop by the house. My younger kids climb up on the truck and listen as their granddad tells them stories from his days as a firefighter. If you’re looking for an unforgettable gift for the firefighter in your life, try looking at antique fire trucks for sale — you won’t regret it.
